All about sunscreen
EezySun® Sunscreen is an FDA compliant Broad Spectrum product available in both SPF 30 and SPF 50, and will protect you and your family against harmful UVA and UVB sun rays. Our cream contains no harmful chemicals such as oxybenzone, and includes natural sunscreen ingredients known for their medicinal properties such as Bulbinella Frutescens (a medicinal plant similar to the aloe found in South Africa). These ingredients are known for their moisturizing abilities and are highly effective in the treatment of sunburns, blisters, rashes, bites and dry skin.
Sunscreen protects our skin from the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun, but not all sunscreen is good for your skin or the environment. There are two types of sunscreen available:
- Chemical based sunscreen includes harmful substances such as oxybenzone, which changes UV rays into heat (a chemical reaction) on the skin and then redirects the heat away from the skin.
- Mineral based sunscreen contains natural substances such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which deflects UV rays as they hit the skin. EezySun offers mineral sunscreen that moisturizes the skin, and protects it against UV rays without the need for harmful chemicals and reactions.
What is SPF?
SPF (sun protection factor) is a measure of how long a sunscreen will protect you from ultraviolet UV rays once applied. A 30 SPF sunscreen would provide 30 times the protection of no sunscreen, while 50 SPF would provide 50 times the protection of no sunscreen.
What SPF sunscreen should you use?
For extended, intense exposure, a broad spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher is advised. SPF 30 filters out up to 97% of the sun's UV radiation, while SPF 50 filters out up to 98%.
While there are higher SPF variants available on the market, such as SPF 100, they can be misleading. SPF 100 can filter out up 99% of the sun’s UV radiation, a mere 1% more than SPF 50. This can encourage people to spend more time in the sun, even though protection is no stronger.
